Thursday, October 30. 2008Cory Miller the Well-Driller's open letter to ObamaMr. Miller is a "Joe the Plumber," the kind of American the Dems do not understand because Leftist ideology cannot account for such fine folks. His open letter to Obama is below (h/t, Eclectic Will). I know plenty of people who have done the same, and who could have written similar letters. Cindy had an email chat with Cory.
Given the uproar about the simple question asked you by Joe the plumber, and the persecution that has been heaped on him because he dared to question you, I find myself motivated to say a few things to you myself. While Joe aspires to start a business someday, I already have started not one, but 4 businesses. But first, let me introduce myself. You can call me “Cory the well driller”. I am a 54-year-old high school graduate. I didn’t go to college like you, I was too ready to go “conquer the world” when I finished high school. 25 years ago at age 29, I started my own water well drilling business at a time when the economy here in East Texas was in a tailspin from the crash of the early 80’s oil boom. I didn’t get any help from the government, nor did I look for any. I borrowed what I could from my sister, my uncle, and even the pawnshop and managed to scrape together a homemade drill rig and a few tools to do my first job. My businesses did not start not a result of privilege. It is the result of my personal drive, personal ambition, self-discipline, self reliance, and a determination to treat my customers fairly. From the very start my business provided one other (than myself) East Texan a full time job. I couldn’t afford a backhoe the first few years (something every well drilling business had), so I and my helper had to dig the mud pits that are necessary for each and every job with hand shovels. I had to use my 10-year-old, ½-ton pickup truck for my water tank truck (normally a job for at least a 2 ton truck). A year and a half after I started the business, I scraped together a 20% down payment to get a modest bank loan and bought a (28 year) old, worn out, slightly bigger drilling rig to allow me to drill the deeper water wells in my area. I spent the next few years drilling wells with the rig while simultaneously rebuilding it between jobs. Through these years I never knew from one month to the next if I would have any work or be able to pay the bills. I got behind on my income taxes one year, and spent the next two years paying that back (with penalty and interest) while keeping up with ongoing taxes. I got behind on my water well supply bill 2 different years (way behind the second time… $80,000.00), and spent over a year paying it back (each time) while continuing to pay for ongoing supplies C.O.D. Of course, the personal stress endured through these experiences and years is hard to measure. I do have a stent in my heart now to memorialize it all. I spent the next 10 years developing the reputation for being the most competent and most honest water well driller in East Texas. 2 years along the way, I hired another full time employee for the drilling business so that we could provide full time water well pump service as well as the well drilling. Also, 3 years along the path, I bought a water well screen service machine from a friend, starting business # 2. 5 years later I made a business loan for $100,000.00 to build a new, higher production, computer controlled screen service machine. I had designed the machine myself, and it didn’t work out for 3 years so I had to make the loan payments without the benefit of any added income from the new machine. No government program was there to help me with the payments, or to help me sleep at night, as I lay awake wondering how I would solve my machine problems or pay my bills. Finally, after 3 years, I got the screen machine working properly, and that provided another full time job for an East Texan in the screen service business. 2 years after that, I made another business loan, this time for $250,000.00, to buy another used drilling rig and all the support equipment needed to run another, larger, drill rig. This provided another 2 full time jobs for East Texans. Again, I spent a couple of years not knowing if I had made a smart move, or a move that would bankrupt me. For the third time in 13 years, I had placed everything I owned on the line, risking everything, in order to build a business. A couple of years into this, I came up with a bright idea for a new kind of mud pump, a fundamentally necessary pump used on water well drill rigs. I spent my entire life savings to date (just $30,000.00), building a prototype of the pump and took it to the national water well convention to show it off. Customers immediately started coming out of the woodworks to buy the pumps, but there was a problem. I had depleted my assets making the prototype, and nobody would make me a business loan to start production of the new pumps. With several deposits for pump orders in hand, and nowhere to go, I finally started applying for as many credit card as I could find and took cash withdrawals on these cards to the tune of over $150,000.00 (including modest loans from my dear sister and brother), to get this 3rd business going. Yes, once again, I had everything hanging over the line in an effort to start another business. I had never manufactured anything, and I had to design and bring into production a complex hydraulic machine from an untested prototype to a reliable production model (in six months). How many nights I lay awake wondering if I had just made the paramount mistake of my life I cannot tell you, but there were plenty. I managed to get the pumps into production, which immediately created another 2 full time jobs in East Texas. Some of the models in the first year suffered from quality issues due to the poor workmanship of one of my key suppliers, so an employee and I (another East Texan employed) had to drive across the country to repair customers’ pumps, practically from coast to coast. I stood behind the product, and made payments to all the credit cards that had financed me (and my brother and sister). I spent the next 5 years improving and refining the product, building a reputation for the pump and the company, working to get the pump into drill rig manufacturers’ product lines, and paying back credit cards. During all this time I continued to manage a growing water well business that was now operating 3 drill rig crews, and 2 well service crews. Also, the screen service business continued to grow. No government programs were there to help me, Mr. Obama, but that’s ok, I didn’t expect any, nor did I want any. I was too busy fighting to make success happen to sit around waiting for the government to help me. Now, we have been manufacturing the mud pumps for 7 years, my combined businesses employ 32 full time employees, and distribute $5,000,000.00 annually through the local economy. Now, just 4 months ago I borrowed $1,254,000.00, purchasing computer controlled machining equipment to start my 4th business, a production machine shop. The machine shop will serve the mud pump company so that we can better manufacture our pumps that are being shipped worldwide. Of course, the machine shop will also do work for outside companies as well. This has already produced 2 more full time jobs, and 2 more should develop out of it in the next few months. This should work out, but if it doesn’t it will be because you, and the other professional politicians like yourself, will have destroyed our country’s’ (and the world) economy with your meddling with mortgage loan programs through your liberal manipulation and intimidation of loaning institutions to make sure that unqualified borrowers could get mortgages. You see, at the very time when I couldn’t get a business loan to get my mud pumps into production, you were working with Acorn and the Community Reinvestment Act programs to make sure that unqualified borrowers could buy homes with no down payment, and even no credit or worse yet, bad credit. Even the infamous, liberal, Ninja loans (No Income, No Job or Assets). While these unqualified borrowers were enjoying unrealistically low interest rates, I was paying 22% to 24% interest on the credit cards that I had used to provide me the funds for the mud pump business that has created jobs for more East Texans. It’s funny, because after 25 years of turning almost every dime of extra money back into my businesses to grow them, it has been only in the last two years that I have finally made enough money to be able to put a little away for retirement, and now the value of that has dropped 40% because of the policies you and your ilk have perpetrated on our country. You see, Mr. Obama, I’m the guy you intend to raise taxes on. I’m the guy who has spent 25 years toiling and sweating, fretting and fighting, stressing and risking, to build a business and get ahead. I’m the guy who has been on the very edge of bankruptcy more than a dozen times over the last 25 years, and all the while creating more and more jobs for East Texans who didn’t want to take a risk, and wouldn’t demand from themselves what I have demanded from myself. I’m the guy you characterize as “the Americans who can afford it the most” that you believe should be taxed more to provide income redistribution “to spread the wealth” to those who have never toiled, sweated, fretted, fought, stressed, or risked anything. You want to characterize me as someone who has enjoyed a life of privilege and who needs to pay a higher percentage of my income than those who have bought into your entitlement culture. I resent you, Mr. Obama, as I resent all who want to use class warfare as a tool to advance their political career. What’s worse, each year more Americans buy into your liberal entitlement culture, and turn to the government for their hope of a better life instead of themselves. Liberals are succeeding through more than 40 years of collaborative effort between the predominant liberal media, and liberal indoctrination programs in the public school systems across our land. What is so terribly sad about this is this. America was made great by people who embraced the one-time American culture of self-reliance, self-motivation, self-determination, self-discipline, personal betterment, and hard work, risk taking. A culture built around the concept that success was in reach on every able bodied American who would strive for it. Each year that less Americans embrace that culture, we all descend together. We descend down the socialist path that has brought country after country ultimately to bitter and unremarkable states. If you and your liberal comrades in the media and school systems would spend half as much effort cultivating a culture of can-do across America as you do cultivating your entitlement culture, we could see Americans at large embracing the conviction that they can elevate themselves through personal betterment, personal achievement, and self reliance. You see, when people embrace such ideals, they act on them. When people act on such ideals, they succeed. All of America could find herself elevating instead of deteriorating. But that would eliminate the need for liberal politicians, wouldn’t it, Mr. Obama? The country would not need you if the country was convinced that problem solving was best left with individuals instead of the government. You and all your liberal comrades have got a vested interested in creating a dependent class in our country. It is the very business of liberals to create an ever-expanding dependence on government. What’s remarkable is that you, who have never produced a job in your life, are going to tax me to take more of my money and give it to people who wouldn’t need my money if they would get off their entitlement mentality asses and apply themselves at work, demand more from themselves, and quit looking to liberal politicians to raise their station in life. You see, I know because I’ve had them work for me before. Hundreds of them over these 25 years. People who simply will not show up to work on time. People who just will not work 5 days in a week, much less, 6 days. People always looking for a way to put less effort out. People who actually tell me that they would do more if I just would first pay them more. People who take off work to sit in government offices to apply to get free government handouts (gee, I wonder how things would have turned out for them if they had spent that time earning money and pleasing their employer?). You see, all of this comes from your entitlement mentality culture. Oh, I know you will say I am uncompassionate. Sorry, Mr. Obama, wrong again. You see, I’ve seen what the average percentage of your income has been given to charities over the years of 2000 to 2004 (ignoring the years you started running for office - can you pronounce “politically motivated”); you averaged of less than 1% annually. And your running mate, Joe Biden, averaged less than ¼% of his annual income in charitable contributions over the last 10 years. Like so many liberals, the two of you want to give to the needy, just as long as it is someone else’s money you are giving to them. I won’t say what I have given to charities over the last 25 years, but the percentage is several times more than you or Joe Biden (don’t you just hate goggle?). Tell me again how you feel my pain. In short, Mr. Obama, your political philosophies represent everything that is wrong with our country. You represent the culture of government dependence instead of self-reliance; Entitlement mentality instead of personal achievement; Penalization of the successful to reward the unmotivated; Political correctness instead of open mindedness and open debate. If you are successful, you may preside over the final transformation of America from being the greatest and most self-reliant culture on earth, to just another country of whiners and wimps, who sit around looking to the government to solve their problems. Like all of western Europe. All countries on the decline. All countries that, because of liberal socialistic mentalities, have a little less to offer mankind every year. God help us… Cory Miller just a ordinary, extraordinary American, the way a lot of Americans used to be. P.S. Yes, Mr. Obama, I am a real American… www.cmillerdrilling.com

I've been looking for six months for something simple, honest and powerful enough to send around to those that just "don't get it". I think I've found it.
To the Water Well Driller,
We don’t know how much taxes he ends up paying. In addition, he doesn’t live in a vacuum. Without the people around him he would not be where he is. Teachers, who gave him education, nurses, food processors and services, working people, military families, are REAL AMERICANS. They are not there for the money, and they do work as hard as he does. Unlike business people, their taxes are deducted automatically; they can’t fiddle the IRS. REAL GOD BELIEVERS are those who can see the whole picture and do not let their emotions and ideology rule their lives and others. If it weren't for 'business people' most folks in the country wouldn't have jobs. We work hard too AND believe its' time for a change. Let's face it, Republican power is what got this country to where it is now. We can't risk more of the same. People, please open you minds, take a minute to think about how we got to this point in History. And by the way, we do respect your hard work and time served in the Armed forces, we'd hope that you can respect ours.
I've put in many a night & long hard weeks as a business person in the hospital industry, retail (I think you guys buy food from stores), and now in building product manufacturing, starting in 2000 all my jobs have been in jepordy because of things like mergers, outsourcing/offshoring and now the current economy. Just because I do my job with my brain and not my back doesn't make me less American, I was born & raised here in a small town, my work and carreer took me to the city's where I've thrived and enjoy (I never thought I would) . I got assistance to go to school, in the form of a student loan that I payed back and a Basic Grant as I was a single mom who had to leave an alcoholc husband. That $1200 grant has been paid back many times because my income IS WAY more than it would have been without that education. Seems like that handout paid off. so you guys who call yourself Real America, I'm sorry I'm just one of those hard working non-Americans working in the business world, making and decent living which was another American dream when I started. I believe we are the mojority of the taxpayers and the ones who will benifit from Obamas plans. I dont' think we're un-real or non Americans, after all we are the majority. To niksgrandma :
Nobody faults those that take a hand up and use it and become productive members of society. But many people have to make it on their own though because they are not black, female, or some other minority or foreigner. (btw - just what is a minority anymore?) For all of the people that truly deserve a break, and will actually do something with it, that is what "the system" is for. It is not there for all of the people that are simply too lazy too work for it to begin with, or don't think they should have to, or why should they bother if they don't have to. And for those who have been raised by 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc. generations of welfare, give me a break. For those that have received an opportunity to have anything better outside of welfare then do something with it, better yourself, better your children. Make a real difference. I have known many people who have received benefits, like yourself, that truly needed them, and went on to a better life. That is truly fantastic!! The system worked!! The sad, sad truth is that you are a minority. Most people that ask, more like demand, that everyone else makes up for them, don't ever do a thing with what they are given, except demand more. Sure, Obama will help folks like yourself, but he will also help many many folks that should offend you because you have worked hard to advance yourself(and while paying taxes of course)but so many others will not. Please, take the blinders off. It's not as though I think that McCain or the Republican party is really that sympathetic, or understanding of the true plight that many Americans face, but it's the fact that Obama and the Democratic party are too sympathetic. How to raise a nation of whining snivelers (and by the way, that sure does buy an awful lot of votes, now doesn't it?) Both parties and both candidates suck. At this point, it's just a question of who sucks the worst. Some people just need to get off their ass. Sounds like you've been a worker bee. As such, you work hard, and you get paid what you agreed to be paid for that labor. Fine. Nothing wrong with that.
What Mr. Miller has done is far beyond that, and it has nothing to do with working with your back or your mind ... it has to do with taking extraordinary financial risks to grow a business. Something you apparently never did ... being content to put in your hours and get your paycheck. Your employers never asked you to take personal liability for the debts of the business ... like Mr. Miller did, time and again. You were free to walk away and take a different job at any given time. Or change businesses at the drop of a hat (which you did). Why should you expect high returns on your low-risk investment of time? Mr. Miller made high risk investments with his time and efforts, and he deserves to reap a proportionate return for those risks. It IS UN-AMERICAN to expect a benefit that you didn't earn. A friend also forwarded the letter to me, and I sent it on to Sean Hannity, who, yesterday (11/18/08) read it on the air and then called Cory Miller for an interview. I recorded the interview and posted it at http://www.brookhavenretreat.org/c_miller_on_hannity.htm.
Well said, Mr. Miller.
I will send this to everyone I know. Mr. Miller and others like him have made America great. Obama and his ilk will destroy it. Time to get to work. In one letter, he's told us more about himself than Obama has told us in two books.
Thanks for posting. What scares me, as it apparently does Mr Miller, is that there is a real possibility that this country will elect a Marxist, associate of known racists, communists, and terrorists, whose campaign is underwritten by thousands of illegal donations, and who benefits from illegal "voter registration" activities of "community development groups" (whatever the hell that means) and from an in-the-tank mainstream media who claim to know "what's good for us". It's a disaster waiting to happen. And it scares the absolute shit out of me that someone--who got Obama himself to admit, on camera, that he supports redistribution of wealth--is investigated and castigated in numerous ad hominem attacks by rabid leftists and, yes, the mainstream media!!! Oh, yes--Mr Kerry is talking "New Deal II"? It makes me sick that the junior senator from Illinois has even gotten this far, even if (hopefully) we elect Senator McCain.
Excellent letter, Mr Miller! I think you have voiced the sentiment of most honest, hard working people in this nation! I have a blog and I will post your letter on it! Thank you for your letter! Jim A
That was awesome! I want to go purchase a mud pump just to support this great American.
My brief research indicates that the letter is real. I sent an email to Mr. Miller to confirm it.
It's damn good. BD,
Can you let us know if he writes back? It was almost too good, and half-way through I got that cynical shudder of reaching the end and seeing: SEND THIS TO FIVE PEOPLE! I hate myself sometimes. No, I don't. I hate that I've been made to become so cynical. :( ` Sarah Palin can relate to this guy, she's been there. None of the other candidates have a clue.
Amen! I don't see why more people can't get this concept through their heads. Are they that jealous of someone who has succeeded that they'd rather pull him down and take his money instead of working harder to raise themselves up?
What a great letter! I, too, plan on sending this to some folks that can still be 'saved'. I come from a family of risk-takers in business and well understand Mr. Miller's feelings. With Mr. Obama's policies these types of enterprises will be only a memory. Why work so hard and take such risks just to be punished with higher taxes to support the folks who wait for the government to take care of them. Something that Mr. Miller didn't mention was what has to be rigorous government intervention in his business at the state and local levels. I'll bet he's 'regulated' to the hilt!
Mr. Miller said what Mr. McCain should be saying. [i]Mr. Miller!!![i/] Millions of prayers and blessings are going to heaven on behalf of you and yours, mine among them. My mother was born in Sweetwater, Texas, the sweetest named place on earth. You have refreshed us all, with sweet water, Mr. Miller. Keep drilling. There are tens of millions who think just like you: The Silenced Majority. The dirt on Obama and his circle of haters won't wash off with all the water in Texas. See you at the polls.
NtroP - I don't think it's only envy of success. I think it's the need to expiate shame for failure. It's something very similar to what Bernard Lewis explained about islamofascist culture in "What Went Wrong?"
That liberal media sure plays y'all like a fiddle.
http://democraticactionteam.org/redstatesocialism/index.html I did not make a graph of the table, but a quick scan down the list suggests to me that the position of any state in the list correlates with the state's population, with small states getting back more than they pay in taxes, populous states less than they pay. Is that a surprise? I don't think so. I could be wrong, but I think that's usually true, not just between states, but also within states, regardless of blue/red leanings: rural areas usually get back more than they pay in taxes.
PS: I forgot to add that it is important to know how the figures in that table were calculated. Take, for example, New Mexico, a small state with a population of 2 million. Did the calculation of the "payback" include the budgets of the Los Alamos and Sandia national laboratories? That's highly relevant because the Los Alamos lab alone has an annual budget of over $2 billion. At least that's how much we know about. It could be quite a bit higher if we were to count additional funding for top secret projects whose budgets are aggregated but for security reasons not itemized (I believe that's called the "black budget", but I'm not sure of the terminology---someone can correct me).
It would seem that the blue/red give/take graphic is deceptive as the states in blue for the most part collect a great deal more at the state level than the red states listed. Wouldn't it be wonderful if less than a dollar was spent for every dollar collected? What a concept that is.........
This is by far the best and well written letter that I have read concerning the Obama truths. I fear for my children and their children if he wins the Election. All of the Obama Kool Aid drinkers need to read this.
There is a video out with a single Marine talking to Obama. It's about 90 seconds. As of noon today, it had eleven million hits. Tonight, Brit Hume, in talking about the power of the Internet in politics, showed part of it. It is as powerful as this letter.
Luther! Can you put up the link? ` Here you go Meta. Too bad McCain couldn't have played this at the debates.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG4fe9GlWS8 Pretty powerful stuff. oh. I just watched it again. Makes me cry.
Well, it's gone viral so plenty of people will see it. ` DEAR MR. MILLER,
PART OF THE RESPONSIBILITIES AT MY JOB IS TO GO THROUGH DAILY EMAILS. YESTERDAY I WAS DELETING MOST OF THE CONTENTS OF THE WORK MAILBOX BUT INSTEAD OF DELETING THIS EMAIL I PRINTED IT OUT AND STAPLED IT TOGETHER AND LEFT IT OUT SO WHOEVER IN THE OFFICE WANTED TO READ THE OPEN LETTER HAD THE OPPORTUNITY AVAILABLE TO THEM. MY COWORKER KASIA HANDED ME BACK THIS PRINTOUT WHICH I DID NOT READ MYSELF AND TOLD ME SHE THOUGHT IT WAS WORTH THE TIME TO READ THROUGH THE SEVEN PAGES. I BEGRUDGINLY ACCEPTED THE PAPERS AND BEGAN TO READ. I WAS COMPLETELY CAPTIVATED BY YOUR STORY AND I NEEDED TO THANK YOU FOR TAKING YOUR TIME TO WRITE SUCH A AMAZING ACCOUNT OF THE CHALLENGES AND ULTIMATE SUCCESS OF THE AMERICAN DREAM. YOU ARE CORRECT IN YOUR OPINION OF HARD WORK AND SELF-MOTIVATION BEING A KEY FACTOR IN LIFE'S DREAMS. MY HOPE IS THAT OTHERS WILL SOMEDAY REALIZE THAT UNLESS SOMETHING IS EARNED AND NOT GIVEN IT CAN NOT BE VALUED AND APPRECIATED. Thank you for taking the time to write this letter that so graphically portrays the substance of what America stands for and who we are as a people. I have just read statements Obama made about our American flag and our national anthem. He hates our flag and our anthem because other nations hate it and our anthem speaks of war. How does he think we ever became a free nation? How can people be swayed by rhetoric that has no real substance and by someone whose mentors and friends have all be haters of the Amerian way. It's time for people to wake up!!!
Mr. Miller,
You are a great American. There are many Americans just like you. I'm one of them. My name is Jay. "Jay the Printer". Like you, I can from a blue collar family. The same families that Barrack Obama claims to want to help. College was not discussed in my family and so I went to work like you. I worked for year for next to nothing and supported a wife and two children. We always made our bills somehow. I ended up getting a divorce but still managed to pay my bills and child support. I am proud to say that I did not miss a CS payment in 15 years. I worked two jobs to make this happen. Then I lucked into a sales position that finally rewarded me for my hard work. My wife and I are now considered rich. Not only do I give up 28% of my income to the federal government, I didn't get a stimulous check. Then I get slammed with the Alternative Minimum Tax payment because by 1960 standards, the government thinks I rich too. It's just not right that 5% of the top wage earners pay 85% of all taxes. We live very modestly. We try and save to put our children through college, but for what? If they become successful, then Obama and his liberal buddies will take their money too! There is no incentive to become successful anymore. Keep up the fight, brother This was referred to me by a friend at Boeing... amazing stuff & very well said. I'm a native Californian (rare, I know), but there must be a little Texas in me, because Mr. Miller's life story struck a chord that sounds just like my grandfather's and my Dad's.
My Dad was a small contractor who was also on the giving side of 'spreading the wealth'. A hard-working, honest-as-the-day-is-long guy that made sure his workers got paid before he did. Went out of his way to use military vets. Despite this, he was ultimately forced out of business by government minority-preferenced programs that handed out over-priced contracts to unqualified, unexperienced people looking for "free money" and handouts. He tried his best, but the work came increasingly more difficult to get because he was the wrong minority... a white, small business owner. Truth be told, we are the silent majority yet we've remained quiet too long for fear we'll be labelled as hate-mongers, racists, etc... liberal propaganda "to keep us in our places". NO MORE! We must start fighting the good fight by voicing these positions - the pen IS mightier than the sword (that's why they so fear Joe). Stay in the face of these bureaucratic pinheads - the Joe's, Cory's and Jane's have shown us how & set the bar. Fervently support those statesmen/politicians who share conservative, fundamental small government values with your $, AND most importantly VOTE!!! I tried to comment on this article but wasn't allowed to post.
Mr Miller,
I appreciate your grit, gut & ethics to build your business. But how you tie that to Mr Obama ruining it all is mostly an utter crock. You, along with most of the country, would still fare better under Barack Obama than John McCain. There have always, and will always, be taxes. The difference is John McCain taxes the middle class more to subsidize the wealthy. Barack Obama taxes the wealthy more to subsidize the middle class. The middle class are closer to bankruptcy than the wealthy. This being true, Obama gets my vote. I hope your business continues to do well, but not your politics. All Good Things, Greg GREG... nice try.
But there always have been and will always be, poor people. The difference is that Obama will take more money from my pocket to give to those that will value it less. As I worked for mine... their's fell from heaven... or the government. Same thing, right. As Obama is the Messiah. What a bunch of hogwash. Obama's plan rewards the majority of Americans with tax breaks, and only 5% of the highest-paid Americans will pay more in taxes. This top 5% is the group who can afford tax attorneys and CPA's to help them find loopholes to allow them to pay less in taxes, and who can take bigger tax write-offs for their businesses. I can guarantee you that Mr. Miller has taken full advantage of the tax breaks offered to small business owners, and has written off his many business losses. I fail to see how Obama is responsible for the problems Mr. Miller has faced, since it was the Republican presidency and the Republican faction in congress who allowed our economy to slide towards disaster. You can look it up -- the economy has always fared better under Democrats than under Republicans despite "conventional conservative wisdom". A vote for McCain is a vote for the failed policies of the last eight years under Bush. Are all of you really saying you want 4 more Republican years? As for the claims of Marxism and socialism, the US is already heading that way on Bush and McCain's watch -- they advocated the bailout with the federal government now holding a percentage of the banks... That is socialism! If I were Mr. Miller, I'd gladly pay a few dollars more in taxes if I knew that the economy would fare better and I'd have more business as a result. Because I'd make more money to more than offset that increase in taxes. I have been in sales -- as a small business owner -- for over 25 years, and I have always made more money under Democrats, because the economy was stronger. Under Bush, I have watched my base pay remain constant while prices increased, and my sales dipped because of the economy. I'd gladly go back to paying more in taxes if it meant that consumer confidence improved and I'd make more in sales. Is Obama the perfect candidate? Of course not. Will his election solve all our economic and financial problems? Of course not. But I cannot vote for a Republican who will continue running this country into the ground as the last one has. McCain is just like Bush, only more erratic, more volatile, and more economically uninformed. Bush effectively killed more Americans by sending them to Iraq to die than the number that were slain on 9/11. McCain would continue sending Americans to die in Iraq needlessly, and continue spending 10 billion a month in taxpayer money -- which could be used for tax credits, scholarships, small business loans, and education -- to do so. Obama is my choice. McCain is the wrong choice for America. And don't even get me started on McCain's idiotic choice for a VP. That woman is ignorant, conniving, and serves as proof that McCain is not fit to make decisions that affect all of us.
Well Eric, you sound like just the person I've been looking for to ask their advice on who to vote for in this election. Why your your attitude and perspective on Sarah Palin alone is just so precise and void of emotion as to make you seem a real genius in your parsing of the real issues and problems that face this country. Yeah boy, you sure seem to have a handle on every little facet of of what I need to know to make the correct decision of who to vote for. So... being as I disagree with everything you say... I guess my mind is made up. It'll be McCain/Palin for me.
Thanks so much for your help. Eric, I could not have expressed this view point better then you did: you are the only person on this blog who makes sense.
Excellent. I had received this in e-mail and had looked for a site that already had it posted figuring it had gone viral. We all know a Cory and a Joe who wants to be him.
Cory Miller is perhaps the most self righteous person I've ever read. In his unquestioned mind, no one who makes less is: as hard working, patient, self-reliant, generous, takes risks or determined as he is. The rest of us are lazy or unmotivated. Every thing he has he earned and everything he didn't get is the "socicialists" fault. And what about those "needy" people that he claims to have given money to - is he a sucker for giving to the people who didn't pull themselves up by the bootstraps? And what about his own govenor Bush? Is George Bush who mismanaged almost every thing that was given to him more deserving that the many millions of self reliant, ambitious, hard working people in the country? If Cory Miller spent a little more time researching the candidates qualifications instead of listening to Rush Limbaugh, he would be a lot more optimistic. The animosity and intolerance have convinced him that everything is going to be taken away by Barrack Obama and his "ilk". That is complete nonsense. He hasn't checked it out for himself.
John Let me get this straight: Cory Miller claims to be self-reliant, and hard working, having gotten what he's got through hard work, and not birthright.
But he's going to vote with the presidential candidate who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth (or at least a military career guaranteed), who graduated nearly last in his class, whose fortune came from fortuitous marriage, instead of the presidential candidate who fought his way from poverty to graduate from two Ivy League universities, and scrap his way into top positions in his own business? Is there any logic there? I don't see it. You can't reason a guy out of a position he didn't get to by thinking. Cory's another example of that. |
