Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

re 'Thought People Hated Him': Trump Surprised
From the article: QUOTE: As for Trump expressing 'surprise' that millions of Iranians would mourn the late Khamenei, this seems but the latest admissions (in a long familiar pattern) of Washington getting pretty much every key assumption wrong about Middle East states and cultures it seeks to do regime change it. This also hearkens back to US claims in Iraq that they "would greet us as liberators"... the same sentiment was at times expressed just ahead of the Feb. 28 US-Israeli attack on Iran. But a mass uprising strong enough to topple the government never materialized - though the US and Israel tried to encourage this. Nothing stops a mass uprising in a totalitarian country like the government killing 35,000 protestors in 24 hours. The anger and hate is still there but the Iranians learned a very tough lesson about being open in their opposition.
There is no doubt that liberals in Iran have been brutally suppressed. But there is also little doubt that religious fundamentalists have strong support.
"religious fundamentalists"
I'm not sure that captures what Islam is when practiced as the quran prescribes. Islam exploits all females for sex including children. This practice by design benefits them men at the expensive of the women. It is necessary than to severely limit all freedoms for women with punishments any Muslim man can administer, beatings, disfigurement and rape all included. It is a slave system, nothing more, nothing less. It hides all of this inhuman treatment and philosophy under the cloak of "religion". But like Hotel California you can check in but can never heck out. Islam is more like the Mafia, a dirty sexist slave running disgusting mafia. In fact it is a gross insult to the Mafia to say Islam is like the Mafia. When Muslim men aren't abusing their women and children they are attacking any and all non-muslims often in the most disgusting way possible. There is literally no redeeming quality in Islam, nothing in their history, nothing in their actions today and nothing in their intent for their future could be described as good for humanity, not even their own people. It is a philosophy of slavery, torture and death under a cloak of religion. Every Muslim country in the world today was established by killing and/or enslaving every non-muslim in that country in ways too terrible to contemplate. And yet, the West, has decided to allow and embrace Muslim immigration and accept the stabbings and other forms of terrorism Islam is noted for. Why? Because the West is both stupid and weak. AND those in the West who are neither are shamed, fined and imprisoned for speaking truth about Islam. In more and more Western nations truth, free speech, opinions, disagreement, are not allowed. While the same governments and same judges and courts release muslims who have raped and stabbed people they will fine and/or imprison citizens who complain about being raped or stabbed by muslims. Somehow "stupid and weak" just doesn't sufficient to describe where we are today. OneGuy: I'm not sure that captures what Islam is when practiced as the quran prescribes.
Yet, as JustMe pointed out, not all Muslims subscribe to fundamentalist Islamic doctrine—any more than all Christians subscribe to fundamentalist Christian doctrine, or all Jews subscribe to fundamentalist Jewish doctrine. Christians and Jews don't have to subscribe to their religious doctrine. Muslims do. BUT they are allowed/encouraged to lie to all non-muslims so that they can appear to be moderate and thus make it easier to infiltrate the enemy. Many are fooled, as you proved. But make no mistake the Muslim religion does not allow "COEXIST".
OneGuy: Christians and Jews don't have to subscribe to their religious doctrine.
Many Muslims do not believe apostasy should be punished, that there is no compulsion in religion. Historically, Christians have punished apostasy. Were they not doctrinaire Christians? Imagine an Muslim-free world...

The Surprising Contents of an American POW’s Journal
https://daily.jstor.org/the-surprising-contents-of-an-american-pows-journal/ QUOTE: 90,000 Haitians live in Massachusetts and only 10,000 are working… Massachusetts is home to roughly 90,000 Haitians. According to the Globe’s own reporting, only about 10,000 of them are actually in the workforce under Temporary Protected Status. The rest aren’t. That is not supported by the article. Many Haitians are not covered by the new policy, such as those with green cards, those granted asylum, or those who have married a U.S. citizen. Furthermore, many Haitians are not part of the workforce because they are children, elderly, students, stay-at-home parents, disabled, or other visa holders. The "10,000 workers" in the Boston Globe article refers only those who at risk under the new policy, not those who are working who are not at risk. More particularly, the Revolver claim that "The rest aren't" tries to ride on the coattails of the Boston Globe, but mangles the statistics. QUOTE: International climate bureaucracies are retreating from their original worst-case scenarios. That's because humanity has moved to reduce atmospheric carbon emissions, meaning it has likely avoided the worst-case scenario. That is not supported by the article, kiddieZ, y'all just made it up.
Z: “humanity has moved to reduce atmospheric carbon emissions, meaning it has likely avoided the worst-case scenario”
Climate Conference in Turkiye this year is gonna be LIT 🔥 Fire up the private jets bichezz!! For reference, here are the emission trajectories based on the different scenarios.
SSP1-2.6 (RCP2.6) is the low-emissions or Paris-aligned scenario. SSP2-4.5 (RCP4.5) is the 'middle-of-the-road' scenario. SSP5-8.5 (RCP8.5) is the high-emission scenario, sometimes called the 'business-as-usual' scenario. RCP8.5 is now considered unlikely. RCP8.5 has not been a serious scenario for the last 10 years, kiddieZ.
