Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Mamdani is going to raise property taxes to, wait for it, making homes more affordable! My house costs me about $2400 a month in mortgage payments and about $5000 a year in taxes. Imagine how affordable that home would be if there was no property tax. I could even choose to upgrade to a nicer home if I wanted to. For the vast majority of people/families property taxes are the single factor making home ownership impossible OR forcing them to buy a cheaper home less satisfactory for their needs. If you wanted to come up with a evil way to make the middle class suffer you would be hard pressed to find a more effective way than property taxes. And yet, 100% of socialist politicians always decide that increasing property taxes is the best possible way to make housing more affordable. What they really mean by this "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs".
re When Hillary Clinton says mass migration has been destabilizing and went too far, and Barack Obama says we are a nation of laws with borders that must be orderly and fair, that is a direct slap.
HRC is a living fossil that only appeals to the elderly demographic of the Dem party, and I believe the radical base of the Dem party has moved on from BHO, so I don't think HRC or 0bama will have much influence on the Dems' immigration policy. Mandami and AOC are setting the agenda now. The midterms will be all about Trump. Nothing else matters. Blind hate and incandescent rage towards Trump will drive Dems to the polls. I don't see the GOP as being that motivated. The other problem with these remarks is that it has the bad odor of agreeing with Trump(!!!) and the GOP on immigration.
When have the Dems agreed with anything Trump has done? If they did, then what were the riots protests and the deaths for? No. The Dems' base will ignore these comments. They won't tolerate any kind of agreement with Trump. feeblemind: The other problem with these remarks
Neither Obama nor Clinton has substantially changed their position on immigration. They have both supported orderly borders. (Obama deported more people than Trump.) But they also believe in humane policies, that Trump has exceeded his authority, and that immigration reform (meaning buy-in from Article I) is essential to regularizing immigration and border control. "Humane" For who? The illegal aliens who are gaming the system, often using welfare programs at the expense of the working, law abiding citizens? Who have no intention of assimilating into the culture and are told by people of your ilk that they are therefore morally superior to Americans?
Or for American's who have their wages depressed and their housing and transportation costs inflated because of the illegals? For Americans and other legal residents who are the victims of crimes committed by the illegals gaming the system? Or maybe the upper middle class and upper class who get cheap, compliant nannies, maids, gardeners and handymen? Exactly how has Trump exceeded his authority as per either a plain reading of a law or as per SCOTUS? IOW, not some Trump hating, hyper emotional LW district court judge. James: "Humane" For who?
Humane treatment applies to everyone, which includes the right to due process. James: The illegal aliens who are gaming the system, often using welfare programs at the expense of the working, law abiding citizens? The vast majority of immigrants work. James: Who have no intention of assimilating into the culture and are told by people of your ilk that they are therefore morally superior to Americans? The vast majority of immigrants intend to assimilate, but it typically takes a generation or so. In previous waves of immigration, the first generation only speaks their native tongue, their children are often bilingual, and the next generation loses the native tongue and only speak English. Oddly enough, people said the exact same thing about the Germans, Italians, Papists, Irish, Jews, Chinese, Japanese, Russians, Mexicans, Haitians, that they would never assimilate. Turns out that you end up with taco trucks on every corner. James: Or for American's who have their wages depressed and their housing and transportation costs inflated because of the illegals? Immigrants vary considerably, but many immigrants fill jobs that most American won't take, such as in agriculture. Highly educated immigrants often fill gaps in medical and scientific fields. James: Exactly how has Trump exceeded his authority as per either a plain reading of a law or as per SCOTUS? Violating due process by separating families. Ignoring asylum law. Repeated violations of the Administrative Procedure Act. -"The vast majority of immigrants work."-
Yeah, just look at the Somalis in Minnesota. 81% are on welfare. The other 19% run child learing centers. Funny but the problem is with illegal aliens which you KiddieZ seem to always conflate with the legal immigrants. This is very interesting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6T-Ea5CfRE&t=149s
Now thinking about what you know or can imagine about drones and their impact on a possible war and robots which are far more advanced today than we might have imagined. What will WW III look like and what will the next 9/11 or Pearl Harbor look like? Could this be a game changer? Thanks to Mr Steyn for his comments and congratulations for his defeat of the so called climate person. I wish that he had included the current folks that occupy the space they are doing a good job for the country as well.

"Transparently labeled", doubtless with a completely transparent watermark. Science fiction is loaded with stories that include past revolts & wars against runaway Artificial Intelligence. Appears we're at the inflection point. / |
