Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Matthew 3:13-17 Christ revealed as God's servant


3:13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be baptized by him.


3:14 John would have prevented him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?"\3:15But
Jesus answered him, "Let it be so now, for it is proper for us in this
way to fulfill all righteousness." Then he consented.


3:16 And
when Jesus had been baptized, just as he came up from the water,
suddenly the heavens were opened to him and he saw God's Spirit
descending like a dove and alighting on him.\


3:17 And a voice from the heavens said, "This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased."

Before Jesus came, baptism had become a ritual among some Jews seeking to symbolically wash away their sins. Excavations have found houses with baptismal pools built into the house. Jesus took the occasion of this symbolic seeking after God to both show that God had come to earth, and for believers to show they had become a follower of Him.
