We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
After mentioning the remarkable success of the restoration of our Wild Turkey populations. I was reminded of a couple of interesting restoration projects which appear to be working.
OK, it is true that beavers can be a pain, but they also create lovely ponds and marshes for all sorts of critters.
Three years ago we had two beaver show up on our small creek. They did their job and the following year we had a lovely little pond. That was the year a mother and two full grown mountain lion cubs showed up. Last summer the pond is dead--the beavers are gone. Those little guys are very suseptible(sp) to meat eaters!
