Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

QUOTE: 10th year gender studies student worries Trump will deport her before she graduates next year Jeff thinks the beans have to take turns lmao. Hum. Go ahead, explain the real-world value of a Phd in gender studies. Or any degree in the "field."
Your link just proves the left can't meme. Because first, there isn't any reason the government should be funding grants to study "crop rotation" of beans. Second, there was almost certainly a huge amount of waste and fraud in the grant(s). Thirdly, you're suggesting studying agriculture is somehow comparable to "gender studies." Which is an absurd notion. OneGuy: Deport them all, let Venezuela sort them out.
For many people, sending them to Venezuela could be dangerous. Assuming the United States is still a rule-of-law nation, your suggestion would require a change in the law, and possibly a withdrawal from the international Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees. Why would anybody have a reason to seek refuge from the socialist utopia in Venezuela?
mudbug: Why would anybody have a reason to seek refuge from the socialist utopia in Venezuela?
The authoritarian government in Venezuela has dismantled democratic institutions and imposed political repression: Human Rights Watch: Venezuela. Why would anyone be seeking refuge by coming to the United States? Especially if you’re a person of color!
QUOTE: Racial justice remained a *pressing human rights concern in the United States in 2024. The US ratified the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination nearly 60 years ago but has done far too little to implement its provisions. Living legacies of slavery and the slaughter and dispossession of Native peoples remain largely unaddressed. - Human Rights Watch*my bold. So much more at the link. I can’t believe anyone would want to come to this horrible place called America. Being an American, I prioritize the welfare of Americans much more than that of citizens of other countries. A good number of those illegal Venezuelans are a threat to the safety of Americans. Almost all will be net service consumers, an expense paid by US citizens. Further, thew illegals who do work undercut American's wages. A plurality, perhaps a majority want us to accommodate their cultural preferences instead of adopting ours. Amazing that you need any of that explained.
In short, only someone who hates the US and wants to see it destroyed could possibly want tens of millions of illegals in the country. Well, you've described Zachriel to a tee. They see those issues as features, not bugs.
QUOTE: The Danger Of A Successful Society: Absurdity The idea is largely correct. People at the center of empire tend to become insulated from the effects of their actions. So, they might engage in foolish foreign wars that costs trillions, but they can borrow the money, so no biggie. Or they can elect an orange carnival barker that dismantles government and social institutions that have taken generations to develop, distracting the public with distorted attacks against disfavored minorities ("They are eating the dogs ... They are eating the cats."), while siphoning off the country's wealth to oligarchic supporters, but the people's lives go on as they have been going on—until they don't. You've repeatedly asserted the charge of dog and cat eating is false. Prove it.
BTW, it is unambiguously true that cat eating is a well-established tradition in Hati. On what basis do you confidently assert that no Hattian illegals did so in the US? Hum. Again. Federal expenditures on means tested social spending in FY '23 was about $1.6 trillion. Not only does that figure doubtlessly include huge amounts of fraud, abuse, and waste, it excludes revenue lost because of the lost productivity the welfare recipients would have generated if forced to work. Additionally, its primary function is vote buying for democrats.
Nor does it begin to account for the massive social costs of welfare, the antisocial and dysfunctional behavior it causes or enables. The fiscal costs of those behaviors is also massive. Out of curiosity, exactly how would you characterize the Biden "presidency"? Just FYI, you could actually respond to the points/arguments made in the link. While you're responding, go ahead and defend calling the USA an "empire."
re Feminists Are Begging For Men To Come Back But Still Blame Them For Everything
This is a great read and is spot on. If you only read one link today, I would suggest this one. AI is doing to the universities what Gutenberg did to the monasteries
A VERY LONG piece where the author posits that today's university system is analogous to the monasteries of the 1500s, on the brink of collapse due to changing technology. It is quite good. Username checks out. :-)
That's a joke, in case anyone didn't get it. :-) If all they're doing with "stolen IDs and SS cards" is using them to get jobs and work, hell! they can steal mine.
The individual illegals aren’t stealing IDs, the cartels are. The cartels then sell the IDs to the illegals. The illegals are now even more dependent on the cartels and the cartels, like other organized criminals, gain power and influence over the employers using the illegal workers and any politicians that may be bribed, coerced or otherwise compromised. Everyone involved has moral agency and should be held accountable.
