Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

How do you suggest that a nation defend itself against an enemy who uses schools and hosptials as centers of military operations? How do you suggest that a nation attack an enemy who doesn't wear military uniforms and blends itself in with the civilian population?

It may surprise and perhaps offend you to learn that hospitals and schools are recognized as legitimate targets by the civilized world when a nation uses them to perform military actions, and that Israel goes to great lengths to warn civilian populations prior to offenses.

The concept of 'Perfidy' applies.

In the Geneva Accords, placing weapons depots in schools, hospitals or churches strips those locations of ANY legal protections, and they're legal targets. Want to keep a hospital un-blown up? Don't put weapons or military goods in it.

(Not that Hamas is a signatory to those Rules of War, or would abide by them in the first place.)

The number of times Rubio attempted to work with the Democrats in the Senate to sneak through an amnesty for illegals ensures he will never be president. A lot of us have long memories. He is doing an excellent job as SecState but there are enough potential 2028 Republican candidates that don't have a history as a squish on immigration.

Reminder:
Ignore any article that suggests any Western leader or initiative can fundamentally change Muslim culture. That is one of the ledes of the Qatar article.

Likewise, discount any article that thinks externally-driven reform of Islam is possible.

Trump is clear-eyed about this. It's all "Let's Make a Deal".

Calling it "the Abraham Accords" is brilliant marketing - I am sure many evangelicals think he's bringing the End Times - but it all falls apart the instant Arab interests shift.
