We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
A gardening pal and I have determined that you have to pick them before ripe. Squirrels will eat them. Do they like them, or just for the water content?
Grey squirrels don't just eat tomatoes they about eat anything. One in particular strips off the leaves of our hibiscus. The temptation to do it in is strong.
My squirrels and rabbits have gone after tomatoes, cabbage, green beans, cantaloupe, and watermelon. The only thing they leave totally alone is potatoes, onions, and asparagus. The racoons go after my corn and chickens. I don't mind sharing most stuff because I wind up with far more than I need except for the melons and cantaloupe. And chickens.
Saw raccoon squad climbing trees and a cardinal on the after dinner walk.
Mr. Owl isn't out yet but will be appearing later.
No scraps left tonight to set out for the prey.
After seeing them eat some very non-edible looking mushrooms in the yard, I looked it up. Squirrels can eat poisonous mushrooms. Their digestive system 'encapsulates' the toxins somehow.
