Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Who's in charge of your medical care?

The article entitles it "Who's in charge of your health -Your Doctor or Your Insurer?" but "health" is a more complex question because lots of health has to do with luck, and some to self-care. 


 Nobody is entitled to health. 


And nobody wants to need a doctor, but we all do or will. It can be expensive and always will be. Either we pay it, or other citizens pay it for us. Any kind of insurance makes sense.

Nobody is entitled to health.

American Indians are. You pay for it. You pay for the entire hospital and staff and support people and supplies and housing for the staff and support people. They build the hospital on or near Indian land and you can't go there for care even in an emergency unless you are a Indian living on the reservation.

Healthcare will be expensive as long as people value being healthy over being sick and being alive over and being dead. As long as this value difference exists, someone is going to try to extract that value for themselves.
Large reasons that people pay more now than in the past include that they are paying for treatments and diagnostics that previously were not available at any price, consuming more resources due to greater affluence allowing more aggregate spending, amortization of the infrastructure to provide life-saving care at some time in the future, and a liability regime premised on the default setting that nay negative outcome must be an error on the behalf of the physiocian or other professional.

We are each in charge of keeping ourselves healthy through our own actions of what we eat, how we maintain our physical condition and how we treat our spiritual condition. If our health fails outside of those controls, we are stuck with government care or government mandated/controlled care. It used to be controlled by each of us and our doctor. No more.

Probably insurer as it is through the state and not every place will accept it.
Haven't been since the COV-LARP in summer 2020 and going off all meds.
I can't see the dreamboat brunette doctor anymore but it is worth it and she is the one who helped me get off meds!
They are threatening to cancel it now due to inactivity, the brand spanking new hospital is within walking distance, might set up for a GP or primary care and then get referral to neurologist.
I don't mind some lab tests but there is a co-pay.
Always pay attention to the little sign off box and ask for a written printout in case of not-a-vaxx when dealing with McHealthcarez.

As long as "health" is undefineable, it will always be the domain of quacks and sundry frauds.

And, "health" will always be undefineable, ergo, ipso facto...
