We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Interesting article. It says that one of the accomplishments of the regime was to modernize the French economy. I don't know if the French economy would be considered "modernized" today. France is still a very agricultural place, and to me that's a good thing. But France did modernize very much when it introduced the Minitel communications system. Minitel was, of course, the father of the internet. (Regardless of those DARPA fairytales.) https://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/28/world/europe/after-3-decades-in-france-minitels-days-are-numbered.html
More importantly, France filed a whole slew of internet backbone patent applications, and today the French government licenses those patents to all the internet giants like Cisco and Intel. Every bit and byte which gets transmitted over those optical fiber lines is a few more Francs in the coffers of the French government. So for them, Intellectual Property is the most important thing in the world. A hundred million old French people are planning to retire on those patents. But old people don't work. So what they call a "license" is actually a license to bleed the children dry.
That's why all I.P. has to go. It's a system for organized stealing. Nothing more.
