We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Hoaxing, coaxing, and trimming in science

Spectacular failures to replicate key scientific findings have been documented of late, particularly in biology, psychology and medicine.


A report on the issue, published in Nature this May, found that about 90% of some 1,576 researchers surveyed now believe there is a reproducibility crisis in science...



Science is fetishized only by people who do not know science.

I took an advanced degree and worked as a research microbiologist for about three years in the early '50s, before becoming bored with it and turning to a pilot's career. I don't recall any of this agonizing over what is or isn't science, fraud in science etc. etc. Of course I was young, and didn't get out much, so maybe the talk was out there and I didn't notice.

Some science, not all, has been politicized or captured by the money politics steers towards science. If you are a scientist today whose funding is partly or wholly from government or semi-government entities it will cost you your job if you disagree with the "correct" beliefs. The intimidation for scientists today to agree with and support AGW is palpable. They cannot even be neutral or undecided they must get on the bandwagon or look for a job. AGW is vying to be an official religion of the left and the next move will be the AGW inquisition. Don't be on the wrong side of this issue and don't speak your mind or else...
