We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Very sad. I suspect this has something to do with it:
Crap! I have followed Lex's blog for years. this is a tremendous loss, for his family, the community, the US. I feel like I was just kicked in the stomach. He joins many heros across the rainbow bridge. Prayers for his family.
"Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones
I too held the man in high regard, and am feeling very sad at his loss. Though I had never shaken his hand, we had chatted a few times. Two of my buddies at the Pentagon -a fighter pilot and a JAG Corps lawyer--were his shipmates on Connie and were visibly impacted when I told them. Lex was a valuable man and will be missed. We are poorer for his loss.
