We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
However, my son (who, God bless him, is a Jacobite to the core), is wont to forget the fact that our ancestors were on both sides that day.
The fall-out from that battle ultimately sent my wife's family to the Thirteen Colonies. When the shots were fired at Concord, the clan leadership stated: "We'll get it right this time: we're sticking with King George."
And so they had to move yet again, this time to Canada.
Diana Gabaldon's novel series, "Outlander" is now an extensive STARZ series (currently filming it's 4th season) following the first three of her 8+ books which begin with the lead up to Jacobite rebellion of 1745.
Worth a look at either the best selling books &/or the award winning series. I happened to catch the first few episodes on STARZ when recovering from an illness. Scottish Gaelic is introduced in the televised series without subtitles. The story was so intriguing, I decided to purchase the first book to figure out what was being said and have been hooked ever since.
